Again its been an age since I last posted - not that I have not been busy with IA. BUT I have been out most weekends with younger daughter at out local boot fairs looking for bargains. I can't believe I have not found them before AND its great to be out on a fresh morning at the crack of dawn with daughter who might only have got in at three but who is still up ready for bargains.
I look for 60s bargains especially in china and Hornsea pottery in particular which I remember coming out when I was a student. Its beautifully designed to be practical and attractive AND most importantly its still cheap.
Most of the best designs were by John Clappison who started with the company when he was still a student. He also designed for Ravenhead glass but I have still to find the examples I want of those. But I have found some transfer printed slim jim glasses from the 60s.
Daughter has moved to a new flat and has sourced all her plates and bowls and cups as well as some more esoteric bargains such as Portuguese cabbage plates and bowls and many different drinks glasses now displayed an her shelves.
The thrill of bargain hunting where you don't know what you might find is addictive. This week it was Hornsea, coffee pot in Bronte pattern and tea pot in Saffron, the week before a Hungarian porcelain tea cup made in the Communist era and some plastic retro knitting needles!
That brings me to the whole craft process I have rediscovered. Many years ago, again when I was a student, I seemed to have enough time to crochet lace collars and knit patterned stockings. when the children were small I ran a small, very small, business knitting children's jerseys but then other interest took over. Recently I have discoved the world of craft blogging and Ravelry and the joy of creating something from very little. Ostensibly I was using up yarn left overs but I have discovered that charity shops are a good source of yan especially now that wool shops have to a large extent disppeared.
So there it is a long random ramble about why I have not been posting but promise it won't be so long again!
